Abdominal Therapy externally addresses the position and health of pelvic and abdominal organs, by gently manipulating the muscles of the abdomen, the low back, hip and sacrum, ensuring the optimal positioning of the organs held within the pelvic bowl.

Abdominal Therapy can improve:

  • digestive troubles and elimination

  • painful periods

  • reproduction and fertility support

  • bladder and prostate problems

  • chronic back and sacral issues

Abdominal Therapy balances pelvic health by stimulating the circulation of:

  • (N) nerve supply

  • (A) arterial blood flow

  • (V) venous blood flow

  • (E) energy, or Chu'le in Maya culture, and Chi in Chinese medicine

  • (L) lymph flow

  • or “NAVEL”.

What to expect in an Abdominal Therapy treatment?

Our work together begins with a comprehensive exploration of your personal health story, done in-person or in a virtual meeting. The full in-person Abdominal Therapy treatment involves an external massage of your entire abdomen, back, hips, and sacrum.

Included in the first session, I will teach you how to perform Your Abdominal Massage (YAM) at home to support your health goals. In subsequent sessions, we can return to YAM as a checkin, ensuring you are fully supported.

From our Abdominal Therapy Collective website: “Our work doesn’t stop in the treatment room. We teach you YAM. Your Abdominal Massage (YAM) is a simple practice and takes only minutes a day. YAM has profound, lasting effects on your health and wellbeing. Early in her professional practice, Dr. Rosita Arvigo recognized the need for clients to continue their healing with their own hands, in their own time, in their own homes. With this in mind, she developed her unique personal massage technique to encourage and empower her clients to take charge of their healing.”

Who needs this work?

Every body needs this work! Trauma to the abdomen such as surgery, chronic inflammatory conditions, childbirth, and accidents, like falling on your tailbone, can cause scar tissue, adhesions, muscular tension, and the displacement of organs. Abdominal Therapy gently and effectively addresses these conditions.

Why is Abdominal Therapy sometimes called Maya Abdominal Therapy?

Authentic Abdominal Therapy, as taught by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN, comes through the lineage of Don Elijio Panti, and Maya healers of Central America. Please take a moment to read of its history and lineage here.

Everyone is invited and welcome to my practice of bodywork therapy. I welcome LGBTQIA persons and I will provide a safe, non-judgmental, and affirming space.
